Looking ahead, the team might consider adding a superstar to the position or making some infield adjustments. They could target the top shortstop available, Milwaukee Brewers standout Willy Adames, who is open to moving to third base.
Ryan Finkelstein of Just Baseball predicted Adames could land in Philadelphia with an eight-year, $192 million contract.
"The top free agent shortstop on the market may also be the top free agent third baseman, as reports indicate Willy Adames is open to switching positions for the right teams," Finkelstein wrote. "If the Phillies decide to trade Alec Bohm, as speculated, they might see Adames as an upgrade at third base. Alternatively, they could move [Trea] Turner to third and start Adames at shortstop, where he would be a defensive upgrade over Turner."
Adames would be an immediate improvement over Bohm, though he might need time to adjust to third base.
The same applies to Trea Turner if the team decides to move him and keep Adames at shortstop.
Regardless of who plays third or shortstop, the Phillies would arguably have the best left side of the infield in baseball.
After one of the best seasons in his impressive career, Adames is understandably seeking a substantial contract.
While the projected deal involves a significant investment, the potential benefits justify the risk.
Signing Adames would significantly enhance a lineup that, although it led to 95 wins and their first division title since 2011, managed only five runs in the three losses that ended their season at a crucial moment.
The Philadelphia Phillies are considering significant lineup changes this winter after their offense underperformed early in the postseason, resulting in a four-game sweep by the New York Mets.
One position likely to see a new player is third base, as recent reports suggest the Phillies have put All-Star Alec Bohm on the trade block.
Despite a standout season that ended on a cold streak, Bohm was benched in the playoffs amid questions about attitude and maturity, leaving his trade value uncertain.

Willy Adames received 4 MPV votes this season.
