Nola then went back to the mound in the bottom of the sixth trying to swing the momentum back to the Phillies. But he allowed a leadoff single to Mark Vientos and then walked the next two batters before being lifted for Kerkering. Nola had pitched well despite giving up two home runs but seemed to tire in the sixth and left with the bases loaded and no outs. Kerkering entered and was able to get the first two outs without allowing a run to come home, but then Starling Marte took the second pitch he saw into center field for a back-breaking two run single to push the Mets lead to 4-0.

In an inning where the Phillies had a golden opportunity to at least tie the game, they exited having doubled their deficit.

Closing time

Manaea made quick work of the seventh inning, needing just seven pitches to retire Alec Bohm, J.T. Realmuto, and Austin Hays. Meanwhile, the Mets offense broke the game wide open in their half of the seventh with a bases loaded single from Jose Iglesias that plated two more runs and made it 6-0 off of Jose Alvarado. New York would once again rough up another Phillies reliever, this time being Carlos Estevez, in the eighth to add a seventh run.

Too little, too late

The Phillies offense finally broke through in the eighth with RBI singles from Harper and Castellanos, but these were the results they needed two innings before as the hits now only cut the deficit to 6-2. Bohm would then line out on the first pitch he saw to put to bed any more hopes of a comeback.

One last chance

The Phillies will send Ranger Suarez to the mound with their season on the line tomorrow against Mets starter Jose Quintana. First pitch of Game 4 is scheduled for 5:08.

The Phillies will face elimination tomorrow after a total defeat at the hands of the Mets in Game 3 of the NLDS by a final score of 7-2. The Philadelphia offense once again went cold, as they managed just two hits through the first seven innings of the game against New York starter Sean Manaea.

Aaron Nola allowed a pair of solo home runs and was then charged with two more after Orion Kerkering couldn’t escape a bases loaded and no outs jam. The rest of the Phillies bullpen once again could not keep the Mets off the scoreboard as they added on three insurance runs.

Inning of the season

Sometimes the biggest inning of a baseball game isn’t the ninth. In this particular one, the game was won and lost in the sixth inning.

The inning began with the Mets holding a 2-0 lead and the Phillies sending the top of their order to the plate. Kyle Schwarber started the count 0-2 before working a leadoff walk against Manaea. Trea Turner followed with a walk of his own to put two on with no outs for Bryce Harper.

Harper had a chance to reenergize the team as he did in Game 2, but this time he wasn’t able to provide a spark. The Phillies star went down swinging on three pitches, whiffing at all three after back-to-back walks. Nick Castellanos followed suit with swinging at all three pitches he saw before lining into an inning-ending, and perhaps season ending, double play to second base.
