Suarez pitched his best inning of the night in the fifth, and it looked for a second the Phillies were going to get back in the game. Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner started the sixth with singles, prompting the exit of Brewers’ starter Aaron Civale. In came old friend Hoby Milner who retired Bryce Harper, Nick Castellanos, and Alec Bohm with little difficulty.
Jose Alvarado came in for the sixth, and while he had been better since returning from his leave, this was not his night. He gave up a walk, triple, and single to put the Brewers up 5-1.
The Phillies had one last chance to get back into it in the seventh when the first two batters reached base. After the next two batters had unproductive outs, Kyle Schwarber drove in one run with an opposite field single. But Trea Turner followed with a fly out that effectively ended the game.
That became a near certainty when the Brewers scored an insurance run against Tanner Banks to establish the final score of 6-2.
It seemed unlikely that the Phillies would sweep the season series from the Brewers, but this does add a little pressure to tomorrow’s game. Hopefully, with much more of the city’s attention on them, they can put on a better performance.
Despite this being the first game of an important series for the Phillies, many fans likely chose to watch the football game taking place at Lincoln Financial Field instead. If you were one of them, you didn’t miss all that much. The Phillies squandered a few good scoring opportunities while the pitching staff had runners on base all night, and enough of them came around to score to give the Brewers a 6-2 win.
Ranger Suarez got the start for the Phillies and if you were hoping this would be the game when he regained his early season form...you’re going to have to wait another five days. He allowed a single runner in the first two innings, but in the third, the Brewers were able to sustain a rally. After a walk and a single, a double by William Contreras put the Brewers up 2-0.
The Phillies cost themselves in the third with a couple of baserunning errors. Cal Stevenson walked but was thrown out at third base when Trea Turner singled. And then Turner compounded the mistake by getting picked off.
A walk, double, and sacrifice fly gave the Brewers another run in the fourth before the Phillies finally got on the board via a Brandon Marsh hit that went just far enough.

If you were watching the Phillies game around the 6th inning, chances are your switched to the Eagles game.
