With the game now tied at two, the Phillies blew it open in the top of the fourth. Sosa and Weston Wilson hit a single and double to both get in scoring position with one out, before Johan Rojas hit a tailing liner over the third base bag that the ball boy fielded, misreading it as foul, giving Rojas a two-RBI ground rule double.
Rojas later stole third and came home to score on a Trea Turner single. After Turner stole second, Harper was intentionally walked with the base open at first to get to Bohm. Alec blew the bloody doors off.
Sanchez got into a jam in the bottom of the fifth inning after having bases empty with two outs, allowing a double and two walks to load the bases for hot-hitting slugger, Pete Alonso. Then he reared back and threw three perfect strikes to sit the polar bear down looking.
Phil’s would tack on two more insurance runs in the sixth with Bohm’s fourth hit of the night and an RBI groundout by Castellanos.
Orion Kerkering, Matt Strahm, Tyler Gilbert and Jeff Hoffman pitched four shutout innings with one hit (Gilbert) in relief of Sanchez to slam the door and punch the postseason ticket for the third straight year.
The Phillies can clinch the division with a win tomorrow afternoon. It’ll be Ranger Suarez against Sean Manaea.
For the third straight year, the Philadelphia Phillies (92-62) will play more than 162 meaningful games in the pursuit of their first title in 16 years, as they clinched a playoff berth with their 12-2 win over the New York Mets (85-69) on Friday night.
After their fate was postponed by two consecutive losses to end the Brewers’ series and begin the Mets’, Cristopher Sanchez battled through control issues to subdue the Mets’ offense and let the Phils’ bats do their thing.
The Mets actually took an early 2-0 lead on a solo homer by Jose Iglesias and an RBI ground out by Brandon Nimmo in the bottom of the first inning.
The Phils would get one back in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly by Edmundo Sosa, scoring Alec Bohm who was on bas thanks to the first of his four hits on the night.
In the top of the third, Bohm and Bryce Harper before him would both single and attempt to score on a Nick Castellanos double, which resulted in one run from Harper and Bohm being dejectedly thrown out at home. He would have ample opportunity to redeem himself.

The Phillies can clinch the NL East with one more win over the Mets.
