THE JAWN STORE

During all of this, the Phillies kept fighting. Johan Rojas crushed a triple to dead center field, giving him his fourth extra-base-hit of the series. His OPS is now above .600 for the first time since May 16. Garrett Stubbs laid down his second bunt of the game to score him.

The game got out of hand after that. Tanner Banks came in for the sixth inning and allowed a run after Xavier Edwards knocked a single, stole two bags, and scored on a Trea Turner mistake. After a one-two-three top of the seventh, Taijuan Walker pitched.

Otto Lopez crushed a fastball to left-center field for his third hit of the day to make it 7-3. Griffin Conine walked before Nick Fortes smacked a double to left. Walker got a needed ground ball with the infield in but Turner missed a throw home that brought in both runners.

They scored two runs in the eighth inning with a single from Nick Castellanos, a double by Bryson Stott, and Marsh smoking a single to center. They went down one-two-three in the ninth.

Seth Johnson will make his Major League debut tomorrow to finish this four-game series. They could not get length out of Nola today so the bullpen might be a little short depending on who is sent down. Max Lazar didn’t pitch today but seems like the obvious candidate since the Phillies need to carry a third catcher for now.

The Phillies entered Saturday’s contest with the best record in baseball. The Los Angeles Dodgers lost against Cleveland Guardians and the Milwaukee Brewers are one-and-four to begin September.

Aaron Nola came into this start with a 1.44 ERA in his previous four. This season has been a lot more steady for him.

However, he hit some bumps in the road against the Marlins. Xavier Edwards blooped a curveball into center field for a leadoff single before Connor Norby blasted sinker to make it two-one.

After the Phillies tied the game because Garrett Stubbs hit a little league triple, Nola struggled in the third. He walked Jesús Sánchez with two outs, who then stole second base. On the sixth pitch of the at-bat, Jonah Bride chopped a grounder to third but Kody Clemens made a poor throw that got by Bryce Harper.

The Marlins would tack on a fourth run the following inning after loading the bases. Norby smacked a single to left to advance everyone from station to station.

After a home run to Bride in the fifth, Rob Thomson took the ball from Nola. He went 4.1 innings with five runs (four earned).
