Estévez, who is set to be a free agent after the season, shook off a slow start to the year and has been lights out for the last two months. The right-hander turned in 15 straight scoreless outings, totaling 17 innings, 15 strikeouts and 12 saves from May 28 to July 22.
The eight-year veteran was an All-Star in 2023 and again had a case this season. He's been a bargain for the Angels after signing a two-year deal worth $13.5 million before last year. His four-seamer averages 96.4 mph and he pairs it with a slider he uses to dominate right-handers and a changeup he utilizes to neutralize lefties, all of which he throws with pinpoint control.
One concern, however, is that he struggled in the second half last season after putting up strong numbers before the All-Star break. He had a 1.80 ERA in 35 innings in the first half of 2023 but a 6.59 ERA in 27 1/3 innings in the second half. He hasn't shown any signs of regression this year, though, as he's continued an impressive run since the All-Star break.
The Phillies swung a trade to acquire right-handed reliever Carlos Estévez from the Angels, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. Philadelphia will send top pitching prospects George Klassen (Phils' No. 28 prospect per MLB Pipeline) and Samuel Aldegheri (No. 23) to Los Angeles.
Neither club has confirmed the deal.

The Phillies hope Carlos Estavez can help bolster their bullpen in the leadup to the playoffs.
