THE JAWN STORE

As the offense was doing their part, Walker was doing his, keeping the Orioles off the board in the first two innings. During the third, Ramon Urias doubled, Gunnar Henderson singled on a ball in the infield and Baltimore was in business. Adley Rutschman hit a sacrifice fly to get Baltimore’s first run, but Walker was able to limit the damage to that lone run. In the fourth, Anthony Santander made his first mark on the game, drilling a home run on a hanging splitter from Walker, the pitch that has been an issue for him all season long.

That, my friends, was a missile.

From there, the pitching for Baltimore took over. Grayson Rodriguez, the starter for the Orioles, settled down after the first two innings. His best was possibly in the sixth when he let two runners on into scoring position with two outs, but came back to strike Sosa out to end the threat. Walker was good as well, but had trouble in the sixth when Ryan Mountcastle and Ryan O’Hearn hit back to back singles to begin the inning. Santander hit a sacrifice fly to get the third run in. When Walker walked Cedric Mullins with two outs, his day was over, giving way to Gregory Soto, who struck out pinch hitter Austin Hays to end that threat.

The score would remain 3-2 into the eighth inning when Jose Ruiz allowed a leadoff single to O’Hearn to bring up Santander. Ruiz threw a curveball that didn’t curve and...well...

A few singles by Baltimore gave them their added insurance run, but Santander was all they needed today.

Let’s not forget Rodriguez though. He was outstanding on the day for Baltimore, limiting the Phillies’ offense to basically nothing through the day save for that threat in the sixth. He pitched well and pitched effectively to allow his offense to get back into the game.

These two MLB heavyweights will conclude their series tomorrow with the marquee matchup of the day, Zack Wheeler vs. Corbin Burnes.

I will always take five plus innings of three run pitching from Taijuan Walker, any day of the week. In back to back starts, Walker has given the team good outings, enough that he kept the Phillies in the game for them to get back into it.

Today, they did not.

The first inning saw the Phillies jump out to a lead when Bryce Harper hit a two out single, then score on a double by Alec Bohm to give the team a 1-0 lead.

The lead grew to 2-0 in the second inning when Edmundo Sosa, seeing the return of Trea Turner on the horizon, kept doing his best to keep him at bay by homering to the opposite field.
