THE JAWN STORE

Glasnow settled down and retired the Phillies’ hitters in order through the middle innings before allowing a glimmer of hope in the top of the sixth, as a Kyle Schwarber single, Bryce Harper double and a patented Alex Bohm RBI ground out narrowed the gap to one run.

Both teams’ bullpens held serve through seven and a half, until newly acquired Gregory Soto stand-in, Tanner Banks, descided to place an offspeed pitch in the strike zone to Ohtani, who returned it to deep left center to extend the home advantage and finish the scoring.

Nick Castellanos did work an impressive eight-pitch AB for a single to start the ninth inning, but Dodgers’ reliever set the next three batters down in order to seal the deal.

Again it will be a lefty-lefty battle as Cristopher Sanchez and Clayton Kershaw duke it out in the hump game tomorrow night.

Since their sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers (66-47) at Citizens Bank Park four weeks ago, the Philadelphia Phillies (66-46) have lost six straight series and seven straight series’ openers, including tonight’s 5-3 loss in Chavez Ravine.

After Dodgers’ starter, Tyler Glasnow, collected three swinging strikeouts to set the side down in order to begin the game, the offense surprisingly strung together three hits and capitalized on a wild pitch to stake an early 2-0 leady in the second inning, courtesy of a Nick Castellanos triple, a Bryson Stott chopper, and an Austin Hays liner.

But after setting the first six hitters down in order, Aaron Nola unraveled in the third. Nola allowed back to back doubles to begin the frame followed by a single, a sacrifice fly by Shohei Ohtani, and a two-run home run by Teoscar Hernandez to give the Dodgers a 4-2 lead.
