His re-signing continues a strong offseason for Daryl Morey and company. Lowry will join a slew of new additions, including nine-time All-Star Paul George, standout wing Caleb Martin, big man Andre Drummond and veteran bucket-getter Eric Gordon.

While Lowry made it clear that he wanted to play again in 2024-25, he was still understandably upset about the Sixers losing Game 6 to focus too much on the future.

“We just lost so I’m not even thinking about anything,” Lowry said at the time, “but figuring out how to get some sleep tonight because I don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep with the way we lost the game. I had a great opportunity to be a part of two superstars in this league and for me, it was a joy to be around them. We’ll see what happens in the next couple months.”

Apparently Lowry believes he has some unfinished business here with the Sixers in Year 19.

Kyle Lowry is staying home.

The veteran point guard and Philly native is re-signing with the Sixers on a one-year deal, he announced on Instagram.

The 38-year-old joined the Sixers last year after being bought out by the Charlotte Hornets following a trade from the Miami Heat. Lowry proved to be an important cog for his hometown team, starting 20 of the 23 regular-season games he played in and all six playoff games against the New York Knicks. His leadership, shooting and overall winning style of play gave the Sixers a big boost — especially All-Stars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

Lowry will also stay with the head coach that helped him earn a championship in Toronto, Nick Nurse. Lowry and Nurse overlapped for nearly a decade with the Raptors and it’s clear the two have a strong bond. Nurse would often talk about Lowry being an extension of the coaching staff on the floor while still being able to affect winning with his play.
