Presumably, Jackson will be a one-year, veteran’s minimum signing. He was traded from the Denver Nuggets along with three second-round picks to the Charlotte Hornets last month. The Nuggets wanted to clear his $5.25 million salary off the books, and Jackson and the Hornets subsequently agreed to a buyout.

Although his best seasons came around a decade ago with Oklahoma City and Detroit, the 6-foot-2 guard was still a productive rotation player for Denver last season. He appeared in all 82 regular season games, starting 23 of them, averaging 10.2 points and 3.8 assists. A career 34.5 percent three-point shooter, he went 35.9 percent from behind the arc last year. He won a ring in a deeper reserve role with Denver the prior season (in a very similar move, the Nuggets had signed Jackson in February after the Clippers traded him to Charlotte and he was waived).

Jackson is a former teammate of Paul George during their time together with the Clippers. He’ll likely fill the third point guard role for the Sixers, which likely hurts two-way signing Jeff Dowtin Jr.’s chances at significant minutes. Philadelphia’s depth chart at guard includes Tyrese Maxey, Kelly Oubre Jr., Kyle Lowry, Jackson, Eric Gordon, Jared McCain, and Dowtin Jr. (two-way).

The Sixers now have at least one roster spot left to fill to reach the minimum number required by the league. We’ll see what else Daryl Morey has in mind.
